You have to make faces to make a model, either automatic via some tool or manually, but there have to be faces or it isn't much of a model. Question, how is it that you have been able to make faces, but then are not able to make faces after.what is the difference between the two times you are trying? You say that you making faces f*cks the models up, but I'm not understanding the problem. OK, so you are right in that I haven't used Wings myself, rather I'm going by the screenshots. You can create just verts if you want to, though it probably isn't the best workflow. And Blender lets you create just edges, which you can later make faces with, if that is how you want to do it. The mirror modifier works great too unless you do something wrong with it. It does many things that Wings can't do, like anything that is animation. It is free, relatively easy(though not extremely easy), and it works great. But in any case, you are going to have to learn the software.įinal solution, learn Blender. Try selecting all 4 verts to make a quad. Wings, due to being simple, may not allow just creating edge like other programs do.

Also, it looks like you are trying to create just an "edge" when you have only the two verts selected and are clicking connect. It can't directly connect those because there aren't the same number. See how many verts you have on the hood, and see how many you have on the bumper. Not to say that wings is great( I prefer Blender), but you have some issues there that aren't the fault of the program. I honestly think you don't know what you are doing there. Why other modelling softwares were not as simple as wings 3D? The only thing i like in that program is that it has extremely easy interface. I am not surprised for i don't see any good quality cars made with wings 3D. Look, this is the way i want to connect my hood to the bumper, but when i press connect nothing happens. But to connect my hood to the bumper, i need middle face - i don't have any. I'm trying to say that the hood has only 2 faces, up, and down. You can connect the 2 objects only in face mode, but since my hood is only has 2 faces and it only upside and downside there is no way to connect it. If the model is only 2 faces object, it shows transparent lines that are not fixable even in hardness->hard.Ģ. Okay i think you see it, but if you don't i marked it for you.ġ.

Here is my first try of making a good quality car. I also tried google scetchup but same thing, those "good quality" softwares just suck for me. That is the first 3D modelling program that i used, i tried other programs like 3ds max but i just give up because it is so hard there, and i can't understand the interface.

Read a full list of new features in Wings 3D 2.2.I love how easy i make models in wings 3D. It is currently an experimental release: the latest stable build is 2.1.7.
#Wings 3d 3d modelling windows#
Wings 3D 2.2.1 is available for Windows 7+, Ubuntu 14.04 Linux and macOS 10.12+ under a BSD licence.

#Wings 3d 3d modelling plus#
Other changes include the option to import files in PLY format, plus support for normals when exporting in Collada format, and vertex colours when exporting in glTF format. The latter is described as an experimental feature, and does not currently support coplanar faces. The former supports a standard roughness-metallic workflow, and comes with some simple built-in tools to generate one texture map type from another.
#Wings 3d 3d modelling update#
To that, the latest update adds two significant new features: PBR shading and Boolean modelling. New in Wings 3D 2.2.1: PBR materials, new Boolean system, more import and export options

One of the longest-established open-source 3D tools, Wings 3D has been in development since 2001, and is still being worked on by original coders Björn Gustavsson and Dan Gudmundsson.Ī streamlined subdivision modeler with an automated UV mapping system and basic support for lights and materials, Wings 3D built up a devoted following, particularly among games modders.Īlthough its user community is now dwarfed by that of Blender, the software has been updated steadily over the years, and still sees around 10,000 downloads per month. The release is currently available as an experimental developer build.Ī long-established open-source subdivision surface modeller The Wings 3D development team have released Wings 3D 2.2.1, a sizeable update to the veteran open-source subdivision modelling tool, adding support for PBR materials and a new Booleans system.
